Cover Wars: The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson

UK / US

I love the UK one!  I love the girl and the font they use for the title.  It looks historical and paranormal.  There something quite creepy about the US one - I do like it but I much prefer the UK one.

Here's the synopsis:
From Goodreads: The day Louisiana teenager Rory Deveaux arrives in London marks a memorable occasion. For Rory, it's the start of a new life at a London boarding school. But for many, this will be remembered as the day a series of brutal murders broke out across the city, gruesome crimes mimicking the horrific Jack the Ripper events of more than a century ago.

Soon “Rippermania” takes hold of modern-day London, and the police are left with few leads and no witnesses. Except one. Rory spotted the man police believe to be the prime suspect. But she is the only one who saw him. Even her roommate, who was walking with her at the time, didn't notice the mysterious man. So why can only Rory see him? And more urgently, why has Rory become his next target? In this edge-of-your-seat thriller, full of suspense, humor, and romance, Rory will learn the truth about the secret ghost police of London and discover her own shocking abilities.

Which do you prefer?

This sounds good!

I really like the UK one although it might be a tad busy.

I have to agree with you that the UK cover has the edge here.

I like the almost monochrome feel of the UK cover and the haunted (or maybe even hunted) look in the girl's eyes.

The US cover is a bit busy. For me, it would have worked better if the girl had been nearer to the bottom of the image, possibly smaller, with the image of the Ripper looming over her. But I do like the haziness of the Ripper and the city indicating the past that is coming back.

Great post and the book looks like it'll be really interesting.

I like them both, but I think the UK cover has the edge!

Looking forward to reading this one!

UK, no competition. It's amazing, and very creepily beautiful. The US one is creepy... but without the beauty.
Thanks for letting me know about this book! It's going right onto my waiting list! :)

UK definitely! It's a lot more eye-catching than the US one... Though, looking at the US one again now, it looks a little poorly done - as if they've just added image on image on image. I love the font in the UK one!

I just finished reading 13 Little Blue Envelopes by M. Johnson and enjoyed it (but didn't love it). I'll be on the lookout for this one! Sounds very good! :)
