I don't know why I find myself hesitant to read fantasy books because when I do I seem to really enjoy them. This is a prime example! I found myself completely lost in the story and characters.
The story begins with Drew and his family. When his father and brother leave for the day, Drew and his mother are brutally attacked by a monster. But things take an unexpected turn when Drew himself turns ... and realises not all is as it seems. Forced to run from his family he takes refuge in Dyrewood forest and that's where his story really begins....
Curtis Jobling managed to capture my attention straight away. I really liked his writing style - really descriptive which I found a pleasure to read and get lost in. I really liked the world of Lyssia and the mythology behind it - and how we get to learn it all at the same time as Drew.
The book is action packed and very exciting. There are a host of characters that we meet over the course of the story and I loved each one (even those I loved to hate!). Whitley made an instant impression, as did Hector and Gretchen. I loved the dynamic between Drew, Hector and Gretchen. But mainly I loved Drew. He's an awesome character that I just instantly fell in love with.
One of those books that plays out in your imagination as if you are watching it on screen. Definitely epic in it's scope - so much happened with many twists and turns - and I can't wait for the next installment! More please!

Amazing review, and I really can't wait to get my hands on this one. I totally understand what you mean about loving a genre you don't mean to love- that's like with me towards dystopian stories.
Now you see I told you fantasy is the BEST. Actually I am ashamed that I haven't read this book. Everyone except me has read it and everyone loves it. Shocking! ;-)
